sc = single crochet
hdc = half double crochet
dc = double crochet
st(s) = stitch(es)
inc = 2 stitches worked into the same stitch
Large Circle Motif
Make approximately 4–5 in Color A.
The photograph shows large, flat circular motifs with visible concentric textured rounds. The exact original stitch counts cannot be determined from the photograph, so this is a reconstructed version designed to create the same appearance.
Round 1
Make an MR.
Ch 2, work 12 dc into the ring.
Join with sl st to first dc.
12 sts
Round 2
Ch 2.
Work 2 dc in every stitch around.
Join.
24 sts
Round 3
Ch 2.
Repeat [1 dc in next st, 2 dc in next st] around.
Join.
36 sts
Round 4
Ch 1.
Repeat [1 sc in next 2 sts, 2 sc in next st] around.
Join.
48 sts
Round 5
Ch 2.
Repeat [1 dc in next 3 sts, 2 dc in next st] around.
Join.
60 sts
Round 6 — Textured Round
Ch 2.
Repeat [FPdc around next st, dc in next st] around.
Join.
Round 7
Ch 2. Increase evenly around by working approximately:
[1 dc in next 4 sts, 2 dc in next st]
Join.
Round 8 — Texture
Ch 1.
Work 1 sc in each st around, increasing evenly where necessary to keep the circle perfectly flat.
Round 9
Ch 2.
Work dc around, making approximately 12 evenly spaced increases.
Round 10 — Raised Detail
Ch 2.
Alternate:
FPdc around next st, dc in next st
Continue around and join.
Round 11
Ch 1.
Work sc around, making enough evenly spaced increases to prevent curling.
Round 12
Ch 2.
Work dc around with evenly spaced increases.
Continue adding alternating rounds of sc, dc, and textured FPdc until the large circle measures approximately 28–32 cm / 11–12½ in across.
Final Edge
Ch 1, work 1 sc in each stitch around.
Join, fasten off, and weave in ends.
Small Circle Motif
Make approximately 6–8 in Color B.
Round 1
MR, ch 2, 12 dc into ring. Join.
12 sts
Round 2
Ch 2, 2 dc in each st around. Join.
24 sts
Round 3
Ch 2.
Repeat [1 dc, 2 dc in next st] around. Join.
36 sts
Round 4
Ch 1.
Repeat [1 sc in next 2 sts, 2 sc in next st] around. Join.
48 sts
Round 5
Ch 2.
Repeat [1 dc in next 3 sts, 2 dc in next st] around. Join.
Round 6
Ch 1. Work sc around, increasing evenly if necessary.
Fasten off.
Aim for approximately 13–16 cm / 5–6¼ in diameter.
Assembly
Lay the motifs on a large table before sewing.
Position the large taupe circles in a loose vertical line, leaving some circles slightly offset rather than making the runner perfectly straight.
Place the small cream circles in the spaces between the large circles, alternating them from the left side to the right side. In the reference photo, the smaller circles act as connecting decorative elements rather than forming a continuous border.
When you are satisfied with the arrangement, use a yarn needle and matching yarn to sew together only the points where the circles touch.
Keep the stitches on the back as invisible as possible.
Do not overlap the circles heavily—the individual round shapes should remain clearly visible.
Finishing
Weave in all ends. Wet-block each circle, gently stretch it into a perfect round shape, and allow it to dry completely flat.
For a runner close to the proportions in the photograph, aim for approximately 35–45 cm wide and 140–180 cm long, adjusting the number of motifs to suit your table.
